There's still time to prevent the us from becoming subsequent epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic, a World Health Organization spokeswoman told CNN.

"The potential is there, but you've still got time to show it around," WHO's Margaret Harris said.

Though the amount of cases and deaths continues to grow within the us , it's possible to reverse the trajectory, she said.

You've got the simplest public health brains within the world," Harris said. "You've got people that can harness technology brilliantly. you've people that can really plan of the box."

The formula for fulfillment is testing people, finding each case, identifying people that have inherit contact with those that are infected, isolating those that are ill or who are exposed and quarantining, she said.

"Finally, getting the people that are ill to treatment -- and once you do this , really, really protect your doctors ," she said.

Harris previously said the us had the potential to be subsequent epicenter supported the "very large acceleration" in its number of cases.

'This is your future'

New York's surge in cases should function a warning for the remainder of the country, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said.

"Where we are today, you'll be in three weeks or four weeks or five weeks or six weeks," he said. "What we do here will chart the course."

New York features a tally of quite 30,000 cases, several times that of the other state, and therefore the majority of the state's cases are in ny City. Cuomo said 12% of latest Yorkers who have tested positive are within the hospital and three of these people are in medical care .

Cuomo attributed the high numbers to international tourism and therefore the incontrovertible fact that New Yorkers live and add close proximity to every other.

Anyone who has left ny over the past few days should self-quarantine, Birx said.

The state and city are making appeals to the federal for more medical supplies.

New York's hospitals have enough personal protection equipment for less than subsequent fortnight , Cuomo said. The state also needs about 30,000 ventilators.

As of noon Wednesday, the state had 4,000 ventilators in hospitals, had 4,000 more on the way from the federal , had purchased another 7,000 and is "still shopping," the governor said.

The ventilators are the "difference between life and death for thousands of latest Yorkers," de Blasio said.

In addition, the state needs another 140,000 beds and 40,000 medical care beds, on top of the roughly 53,000 beds it already has, Cuomo has said.
